Other than the available pre-defined monitors, MSP Center Plus provides you the option to create Custom Monitors provided the performance metric of the device that has to be monitored has a system OID and returns a numeric output when queried. To create a custom monitor:
  1. Click the name of the Monitoring Template [Network Monitoring-> Admin-> Monitoring Templates] in which you want to add a Custom Monitor.
  2. Click the link New Monitor. Add New Monitor window opens.
  3. Enter the SNMP OID or click the Select button to load from the MIB Browser. If have a got a MIB from a vendor, then download the MIB under central\mibs folder.
  4. Enter the Monitor Name, Display Name, Description and Interval.
  5. Enter the Units of the performance metric that has to be monitored.
  6. Configure the Threshold Alert and Rearm Value.
  7. Enter the count of the number of Consecutive Times the threshold can be violated before raising an alert.
  8. Click on Advanced button to enter the Alarm Message and Severity of the Alarm.
  9. Click Ok.
Custom Monitor is added to the Monitoring Template.

If you want to create multiple Custom Monitors at a time, 
  1. Click Add Bulk button available on top right corner of the Add New Monitor window.

    Now Add Bulk Monitor window opens.
  2. Enter the Name, OID, Interval, Units, Threshold and Rearm Values. Select the Tabular check box if the entered OID is a tabular OID. [A tabular OID is a OID which defines multiple related object instances that are grouped in MIB tables.]

Loading the MIB and Selecting the OID
  • In the opened MIB browser click on the Load Mib button to load the MIBs for selection.
  • Select the respective MIB and click on Load.
After loading the MIB, select the OID for which you want to create the custom monitor. Click on OK.
