How Patch Management Works?

The steady increase in network vulnerabilities and the sheer volume of software patches have created a need for strict and efficient patch management in enterprises to avoid business downtime and to secure themselves against the attacks. Desktop Management with its Patch Management module manages patches effectively. With Desktop Management the system administrators have gained the ability to respond to computer threats in quick time.

All patches that are released my Microsoft are maintained in a repository called the vulnerability database at the ManageEngine site. The Agent installed on the desktops periodically scans and verifies with the patch repository maintained at the ManageEngine site. If it finds the OS is outdated, then it shows the list of such devices on the Central web client [Desktop Management -> Patches] which have some missing patches that have to be installed. You can now install the missing patches on the devices.

The above process can be automated by configuring patch scan and patch deployment settings. You can also generated reports on the same.
